Ingredients

  • Hoisin sauce
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Lime zest
  • Fresh basil (finely chopped)
  • Soy sauce or low-sodium alternative
  • Honey or maple syrup
  • Black pepper or chili flakes

Instructions

  • Add hoisin sauce to a bowl. This is your base, so choose a decent one. No need to overthink it.
  • Stir in lime juice and zest. Mix until smooth and glossy. You should already smell the magic happening.
  • Add garlic, basil, and soy sauce. Stir gently so the basil stays fresh and green.
  • Sweeten and season. Add honey or maple syrup, then pepper or chili flakes if you want a kick.
  • Taste and adjust. Too tangy? Add a bit more hoisin. Too sweet? A splash of lime fixes everything.
